AN ACT to amend the Law Revision Act

[ Published in the Official Gazette Vol. XXV No. 77
dated 1st December, 2005 ]

ENACTED by the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda as fol-
lows:

1. This Act may be cited as the Law Revision (Amendment)
Act, 2005.

2. The Law Revision Act is amended by the insertion, imme-
diately after Section 16, of the following section:

The Attorney-General may, at any time, by
order published in the Gazette rectify any
written law so as —

(a) to alter the order of the provisions
in the written law and, in all cases
where it is necessary to do so, to
renumber the provisions of that
law;

(b) to alter the form or arrangement
of any provision of the written

law, either by combining it in whole
or in part with another provision
or other provisions, or by divid-
ing it into two or more provisions
or by transposing words;

(c) to divide the written law into parts
or other divisions and to give such
parts or divisions suitable head-
ings;

(d) to add a long title, a short title or a
citation to a written law which may
require it and, where desirable, to
alter the long title, short title or ci-
tation;

(e) to supply or alter marginal notes,
head notes or headings;

(f) to correct cross references;

(g) to make such formal alterations as
to names localities, offices, titles
and otherwise as may be neces-
sary to bring any written law into
conformity with the circumstances
of Antigua and Barbuda;

(h) to do all things relating to form and
method which may be necessary
for the perfecting of the Laws of
Antigua and Barbuda.

(2) Subsection (1) shall not be construed as
conferring any power to alter the substance of
any written law.

(3) Where in relation to a written law, and
having regard to the Interpretation Act or the
interpretation provisions of any other law, an
Order under subsection (1) is made, the provi-
sions of the written law rectified under that

Order shall, for all purposes, have the same
force and effect as provided for in this Act in
relation to a written law revised by the Com-
missioner.

(4) In this section, “written law” includes a
Bill in respect of which a motion for its second
reading has not yet been proposed.

(5) This section applies to any written law
in existence before or after the commencement
of this Act.”
