2. In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires "thc
Constitution" means the Constitution of Jamaica.
PART I.-Application for Citizenship
2A. An application by a person born overseas for a document to certify
Jamaican citizenship by descent under section 3 of the Constitution shall be
accompanied by the fee specified in the Fourth Schedule. F O W ~ ~

3. An application by a man or woman for registration as a citizen of
Jamaica under subsection (1) or (3) of section 4 of the Constitution or under
section 7 of the Constitution shall be made to the Minister in the form set out
as Form R 1 in the First Schedule; and the oath of allegiance required to be Fm1
taken by an applicant who is a British protected person or an alien shall be s",.Ye,
subscribed and attested, and as so subscribed and attested shall be included in
the form of application.
4. An application for registration as a citizen of Jamaica under subsection
(2) of section 4 of the Constitution shall be made to the Minister in the form
set out as Form R. 2 in the First Schedule. F~ R 2,
5. An application for registration as a citizen of Jamaica under section 3
of the Act shall be made in the form set out as Form R 3 in the First F-R.S.
Schedule.
6. An application for the registration of a minor child of a citizen of
Jamaica as a citizen of Jamaica under subsection (1) of section 4 of the Act
shall be made to the Miruster in the form set out as Form R. 4 in the First F-R 4
Schedule.
PART 11.-Naturalisation
7. An application for a certificate of natwalisation shall be made in the

form set out as Form N. 1 in the First Schedule.

8. A certificate of naturalisation granted by the Minister shall be in the
snond form set out in the Second Schedule and shall be signed by the Minister or by
scheduk a person authorized by him in that behalf.
9 . 4 1 ) The oath of allegiance required by section 6 of the Act to be taken
by a person to whom a certificate of naturalisation has been gmnled,shall be
endorsed on the certificate of naturalisation to which it relates.
(2) The oath of allegiance required as aforesaid shall be taken with-
in one calendar month of the date of the certificate of naturalisation to
which it relates or within such extended time as the Minister may permit, and
if the oath is not taken within the said time the certificate shall have no
effect:
Provided that permission shall not be deemed to have been given under
this paragraph qless a statement to that effect is endorsed on the certificate
and signed by a person authorized by regulation 8 to sign a certificate of
naturalisation
(3) The oath of allegiance required as aforesaid shall be registered at
the office of the Minister.
PART HI.-Re,mnciation and Deprivation of Citizenship of Jamaica
1 0 . 4 1 ) A declaration of renunciation of citizenship of Jamaica made
under subsection (1) of section 7 of the Act shall be in the form set out in the
Third
Schedule
Third Schedule.
(2) The declaration shall subject to the provisions of the said section
7, be registered in the office of the Minister.
1 1 . 4 1 ) When it is proposed to make an order under section 8 or 9 of
the Act depriving a person of his citizenship of Jamaica, the notice required
by subsection (5) of section 8 to be given to that person may be given-
(a) in the case where that person's whereabouts are known, by
causing the notice to be delivered io him personally or by
sending it to him by post:
(b) in the case where that person's whereabouts are not known, by
sending it to his last known address.
(2) Where the Minister has given notice as aforesaid and the
person to whom it is given has the right on making application therefor, to an

enquiry under subsection (6) of section 8 of the Act, the application shall be
made-
(a) if that person is in Jamaica at the time when the notice is given to
him, within twenty-one days from the giving of the notice;
(b) in any other case, within such time, not being less that twenty-one
days from the giving of the notice, as the Minister may determine:
Provided that the Minister may in special circumstances at any time
extend the time within which the application may be made.
(3) Any notice given in accordance with the provisions of this
regulation shall, in a case in which the person to whom it is given has the
right, on making application therefor, to an enquiry under subsection (6) of
section 8 of the Act, include a statement of the time within which such
application must be made.
12. Where an order has been made depriving a person who is a citizen of
Jamaica by registration of that citizenship, his name shall be removed from
the register of citizens of Jamaica in which it is entered.
13. Where an order has been made depriving a person naturalised in
Jamaica of his citizenship of Jamaica, the person so deprived or any other
person in possession of the relevant certificate of naturalisation shall, if
required by notice in writing given by the Minister, deliver up the said
certifiate to the Minister or such person and within such time as may be
specified in the notice, and the said certificate shall thereupon be cancelled or
amended.
PART IDA.-Restoration of Citizenship
13k An application for the restoration of citizenship under section 9A of
the Act, shall be made to the Minister in the form set out as Form R 5 in the
First Schedule. FM Schedule.

14. Where a person wishes to make an application or declaration under
these Regulations aud the form set out in the Schedule erred to in the
regulation is, in the opinion of the Minister, unsuitable to the "i particular case,
the Minister may authorize the application or declaration being made in some
other form
15. A certi6cate of citizenship in case of doubt given under section 10 of
the Act shall be signed by the Minister or by a person authorized by him in
that behalf.

16. Any application for declaration made in accordance with regulation 3,
5, 6, 7,or 10 shall not be accepted or registered, and the oath of allegiance
required by sections 4 and 7 of the Constitution, and section 6 of the Act
shall be of no effect unIess it is signed in the presence of or administered by
one of the following persons-
(a) in Jamaica-
any Justice of the Peace or Notary Public or any person authorized
to administer oaths;
(b ) elsewhere-
any consular officer of the Government of Jamaica or any consular
officer of Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom acting
on behalf of the Government of Jamaica or, if there is no such
consular officer, any person authorized by the Government of
Jamaica in that behalf, or any person for the time being authorized
by law, in the place where the applicant, declamnt or deponent is,
to administer an oath for any judicial or other legal purpose:
Provided that if the applicant, declamnt or deponent is serving in the
armed forces the application or declaration may be signed in the presence of,
or the oath administered by, any officer holding a commission in those
forces, whether the application, declaration or oath is made or taken in
Jamaica or elsewhere.
17. A document may be certified to be a true copy of a document for the
purposes of subsection (2) of section 12 of the Act by means of a statement
in writing to that effect signed by a person authorized by the Minister in that
behalf.
18.-(1) Subject to the provisions of this regulation the fees specified in
Fourth
Schedule
the Fourth Schedule may be taken and shall be paid to the Accountant-
General.
(2) Fees payable under the Fourth Schedule shall be in the amount
and currency specified in the second column of that Schedule in relation to
the respective countries from which the matters originate.
(3) Of the fee payable in respect of the grant of a certificate of
naturalisation f ifty dollars (if the applicant is a British protected person) or
one hundred dollars (if the applicant is an alien) shall be payable on the
submission of the application for a certificate and shall in no circumstances
be returned, and the balance shall be payable on the receipt of the decision to
grant a certificate:
Provided that where a husband and wife apply at the same time for
certificates and are residing together at the time of the applications and the
balance is paid in respect of the grant of a certificate to one of them, no
balance shall be payable in respect of the grant of a certificate to the other.

APPLICATION BY AN ALIEN OR BRITISH PROTECTED PERSON FOR
A CERTIFICATE OF NATURALISATION (Regulation 7)
C~moN-!3ection 14(1) of the Jamaican Nationality Act, provides that-
"Any person who fos the purpose of procuring anything to & done or
not to be done under this Act or under the provisions of Chapter 11
of the Constitution, makes any statement which he knows to be
false in a material particular, or recklessly makes a statement which
is false in a material particular, shall be guilty of an offence and
shall be liable on summary conviction before a Resident Magistrate
