The A1 Motorway (North of Leeming to Scotch Corner Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1996

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980(1)and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:—
1. This Scheme may be cited as the A1 Motorway (North of Leeming to Scotch Corner Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1996 and shall come into force on 24th July 1996.
2. In this Scheme:
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) (i) “connecting road” means a special road along a route described in Schedule 2 to this Scheme;
(ii)“the Motorway” means a special road along the route described in Schedule 1 to this Scheme;
(iii)“a plan” means one of the plans, numbered 1 and 2, contained in the plan folio numbered HA16/RPD 12 and marked “The A1 Motorway (North of Leeming to Scotch Corner Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1996”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, LG12, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR.
(iv)“the special roads” means the Motorway and each connecting road; and
(v)“the A1” means the A1 Trunk Road.
3. The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980.
4. The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on a plan.
5. Each of the special roads shall become a trunk road on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

SCHEDULE 1Route of the Motorway
The route of the Motorway is about 17.25 kilometres in length and follows the route of the existing A1 from a point 250 metres south of the entrance to Holtby Hall (mark ‘A’ on plan 1) in the District of Hambleton in the County of North Yorkshire, then going in a generally northerly direction to a point 348 metres south of the centre of Barton Grade Separated Junction (marked ‘B’ on plan 2) in the District of Richmondshire in the County of North Yorkshire.
SCHEDULE 2Routes of the Connecting Roads
The routes of the connecting roads are in the District of Richmondshire in the County of North Yorkshire.
(i)Junction with new Link Road (Catterick Grade Separated Junction)
Four routes to connect the Motorway with the link road which connects the A6136 Leeming Lane to the A6136 Catterick Lane (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 on plan 1).
(ii)Junction with A66 (Scotch Corner Grade Separated Junction)
Four routes to connect the Motorway with the A66 Scotch Corner Grade Separated Junction (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 5, 6, 7 and 8 on plan 2).
(iii)Junction with B6275 (Barton Grade Separated Junction)
Two routes to connect the Motorway with the B6275 (the special roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 9 and 10 on plan 2).
