DECISION No. 253/1998/QD-TTg of December 29, 1998 on ranking the submerged Tram Chim nature preservation area in Dong Thap province as Tram Chim national park and approving the construction investment project for Tram Chim national park in the 1999-2003 period

To rank the submerged Tram Chim nature preservation area of Dong Thap province as Tram Chim national park, which shall be included in the system of Vietnam�s special-use forests.

To approve the construction investment project for Tram Chim national garden with the investor being the management board of Tram Chim national park. The project covers Tam Nong district of Dong Thap province with the total land area of 7,588 ha. Project�s objectives are: to preserve the typical ecological system of the submerged land of the Mekong river delta, making it a national-standard model of the submerged ecological system in the enclosed Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reed) flood area; to preserve unique cultural and historical values while studying, rationally exploiting the regional ecological system for the nation�s interests and for contribution to the protection of the common ecological environment of the Southeast Asian region. The project�s total investment capital shall be around 59,000 million dong, of which 39,000 million dong shall be the budget capital, 2,000 million shall be mobilized from population and 18,000 million dong from other sources.- (Summary)
