DECREE NO 791

THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR,

CONSIDERING:

I.-That in accordance with Article 131, Ordinary 11 ° of the Constitution, it is the faculty of this Legislative Assembly to decree, in a general manner, benefits and tax incentives or of any nature, for the promotion of cultural, scientific, agricultural, industrial, or other activities.

II. The World Health Organization warns that a low intake of fruits and vegetables causes 19% of cases of gastrointestinal cancer and 31% of cases of ischemic heart disease, producing two million seven hundred thousand deaths annually.

III.-That in the framework of the "IX Congress of Promotion to the Consumption of Fruit and Vegetables", held in the city of Budapest in Hungary, was established on October 18 of each year as "World Day of the Fruit and Vegetables", This initiative aims to raise awareness among the world's population about the importance of daily consumption fruits and vegetables in the prevention of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, among which are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, obesity and diabetes, which cause 60% of deaths worldwide.

IV. important that in our country the consumption of fruits and vegetables, as well as healthy eating habits, be promoted in order to influence the health conditions of the people, thus achieving an improvement in the quality of life for the girls, children, Salvadoran adolescents and families, which is why it becomes necessary to have one day a year in which to invite the population to become aware of the importance of fruit and vegetable consumption and to improve their eating habits.

V.-That by reason of the above it is appropriate to declare on October 18 of each year as " National Day of the Consumption of Fruit and Vegetables ", in order to promote good eating habits among the Salvadoran population and to pay for the impulse of the preventive approach of public health.
