Proposal for Resolution No. 124 /X
Considering that the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
has resulted from the widespread consensus of the international community on the need for
effectively ensure respect for the integrity, dignity and individual freedom of the
citizens with disabilities and to strengthen the prohibition of discrimination of these citizens through
of laws, policies and programs that specifically meet their characteristics and
promote their participation in society;
Considering that the Convention safeguards the integrity, liberty and privacy of the
people with disabilities, guarantees their social, political, economic and cultural rights and
safeguard your specific rights with regard to accessibility, autonomy,
mobility, integration, habilitation and rehabilitation, participation in society and access to
all goods and services;
Considering that alongside the accountability of the whole society, governments and society
civil, in combating the discrimination of persons with disabilities, a system of
international monitoring of the implementation of the Convention, through which the Committee of the
Rights of Persons with Disabilities, created by the Convention and composed of experts
independent, will look at the progress verified at the national level, based on reports
nationals submitted by the States Party;
Considering that the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities constitutes, thus,
a historic milestone in the warranty and promotion of the human rights of all citizens and
in particular of Persons with Disabilities.

Thus:
Under the terms of the paragraph d) of Article 197 (1) of the Constitution, the Government presents to the
Assembly of the Republic the following motion for a resolution:
To approve the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, adopted in New
York, on March 30, 2007, the text of which, in the authenticated version in the English language, thus
as the respective translation into the Portuguese language, if published in annex.
